WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Artists of Tomorrow Festival 2005, a four-week, multi-disciplinary performing arts festival that supports new work in its earliest stages of development, presents 28 artists and more than 60 performances. A project of Six Figures Theatre Company, the first-look event features an eye-popping mix of theatre, dance, multi-media, comedy, neo-vaudeville and improv projects by emerging artists as well as by established artists revising a project or branching out into new disciplines. This year's Artists of Tomorrow hosts 20 New York premieres, and four Special Guest Appearances by noted performers and troupes. Among the festival's 28 events are Sara Moore's "Show Ho;" "The Morons Don't Have to Laugh" by Chicago's improvisational clown troupe CLUNK; new plays by Tanwi Nandini Islam, Tanya Krohn, Suzanne Dottino; a dance work by Melissa Riker & the Kinesis Project; multi-media work by Stacey Cervellino & Anna Klein; interdisciplinary work by Abena Koomson and Misa Ogasawara; a chamber work for voice and debris by Laylage Courie, and Cole Kazdin's controversial and evolving one-woman comedy "My Year of Porn." Also on tap are special late-night shows, including Sept 16 & 17 guest appearances of the widely praised Fringe hit "Dark Deceptions" by Todd Robbins, plus three improv/sketch comedy nightcaps featuring Devil's Dancebelt & Kendall's Clown Pageant on Sept 17; the New York Neo-Futurists premiering a new version of "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind" on Sept 23 and 24, Kendall's Clown Pageant & Free Love Forum on Oct 1. The festival culminates in a closing night special performance of excerpts from works singled out for encouragement by a panel of industry professionals. The closing night event takes place on Oct 10 at 7P at The Barrow Street Theatre, 27 Barrow Street (at 7th Avenue).
