WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The story of the great philosopher Socrates, in a new play by ETNY Theater Company, takes place in Greece in 399 B.C. He is brought to trial by the Athenians and tried by his peers. This timely and dramatic adaptation of Plato's dialogues asks questions about the meaning of wisdom and excellence, the rule of law, and the power of a democracy. Socrates on Trial gives audiences a chance to see and hear how Socrates might have seemed to the Athenians 2400 years ago. The original play takes the audience to the court of law, where Socrates defends himself against his accusers.
