WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
In Skins, the performers and the audience journey through a physical landscape of the Sea of Cortez, the desert, the body, and an interior landscape of memory and desire. Utilizing the voices of a multi-cultural humanity, by turns lament, elegy, comedy and celebration speak to our common experience of finding a "self". Skins resonates on multiple levels, with multiple disciplines and multiple languages, beginning with a woman's body and expanding into every body to the earth. Created at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, based on the poetry/sculptures of Elizabeth Ingraham, directed/choreographed by Kathryn Moller and featuring the music of Yukio Tsuji, Skins explores qualities we most need now: courage to speak; compassion to hear; determination to connect. More than ideology, Skins is about basic human longing: wholeness, integrity, intimacy and happiness.
