WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Shining Days chronicles the lives of members of The Golden Dawn, an elite occult society, which flourished in Victorian London. Meet the artist/magicians whose talents reached their zenith during their time together. Characters include S.D. Macgregor Mathers, acknowledged as the father of the modern new age movement, and his wife Moina, whose stunning drawings and designs defined the image of the Golden Dawn- Florence Farr Emery, celebrated actress, who created many of G.B. Shaw's heroines, and helped found the Abbey theatre in Dublin-Annie Horniman, renowned designer, and one of the first female theatre managers in Europe-W.B. Yeats, beloved poet, playwright and co-founder of the Abbey. His life-long obsession with the stunning Irish revolutionary Maud Gonne Mac Bride motivated him to create some of his finest work.

Interesting Story, Enjoyable Play
This is a fast moving character study of a bunch of eccentric English mystics who founded their own occult society - and who wrestled with many of the issues of modernity that we still grapple with today. The play shows their warts, but is still sympathetic - so the characters have depth. The cast is good, and the production makes the most of its limited means, so this was a surprisingly satisfying evening of theater for me.
