WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Hailed as "among the best seen in New York" by The New York Times' Anna Kisselgoff and "haunting" by the New York Post's Clive Barnes, the Portuguese Contemporary Dance Company returns to New York for the first time in three years with two premieres. Sete Sonhos de Pássaros (Seven Bird Dreams), making its World Premiere in New York City, draws its inspiration from the Farid Ud-din Attar's Persian poem, The Conference of the Birds. This dance tells the story of a flock of birds dreaming of humanity and is set to a collage of music. Requiem, set to a score by Benjamen Britten and making its American Premiere, is a tribute to victims of the Holocaust marked by differing stages of heightened emotional states that move the dancers through the piece. In praising the work, The Dance Insider described the dancers in Requiem as cutting through the air "like birds of prey until they eventually reached a peaceful resting place."
