Requiem For New Orleans is an original hip hop dance-theater production conceived by Twilight Rep company members James Vesce and Donell Stines and is dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It features elements of the traditional Requiem Mass for the Dead (the works of several classical works are sampled) and the New Orleans jazz funeral service fused with hip hop music and dance, spoken word, a live DJ, and an elaborate video design. The piece recalls the events immediately before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. Requiem for New Orleans is presented as part of the 10th annual New York International Fringe Festival.
