In a tip of their hat to the early people's theater on the Bowery at the turn of the century, to the explosion of performance art of the sixties, to the radical and politicized outcries of the gentrifying eighties, Surf Reality presents Radical Vaudeville, a new monthly show designed to captivate the imaginations and spirits of all with its blend of sex, comedy and rock 'n' roll.
Drawing on a community of performers who have been sticking it out in the scene for over a decade, Radical Vaudeville features Ivan Lenin, The Make Out Party, Magic Brian, Jennifer Blowdryer, an in-house all-female comedy sketch group called Mo's Hos (featuring The O'Debra Twins, Jessica Delphino, Rosie Rebel and Steph Sabelli), and more. The show is hosted by Henry Faulkner, who fronts the scatological country western band The Trailer Park Rangers, and is a brilliant stand-up iconoclast in the tradition of Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce.
"I wanted to create a show that tests the boundaries of what we consider art and performance art these days, especially given the social and political climate of the city and country." - Robert Prichard, Producer
Friday, January 5 at Midnight.
Radical Vaudeville performs on the first Friday and last Tuesday of each month. With the exception of the January 5 performance, the shows are scheduled to begin at 10:00pm.
