WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The LGBT Center welcomes songwriter John Bucchino as the first guest artist in their new quarterly series, Queer Songbook. From Broadway to cabaret, Queer Songbook will explore and celebrate the talents of composers, lyricists and songwriters within the LGBT community.

Seated at a grand piano, Bucchino will perform his songs, along with several special guests. An award-winning composer, Bucchino's songs have been recorded and performed by many notable figures, among them Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Michael Feinstein, Art Garfunkel, Patti LuPone, Audra MacDonald, Liza Minnelli, the Boston Pops, at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the White House.

An award-winning composer, Bucchino has written songs for several musicals including "Lavender Girl," which was included in an evening of short musicals called 3hree, compiled by Harold Prince. He has also written the songs for the Dreamworks animated film Joseph, King of Dreams, and has released two CDs: an RCA Victor CD and companion songbook titled Grateful, The Songs of John Bucchino, and Solitude Lessons. He is currently recording a solo piano CD featuring the songs of Richard Rodgers, recorded on Rodgers' own Steinway piano. Come celebrate this emerging star and enjoy his masterful songwriting.
