WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Proto-type Theater's About Silence Written by Peter Petralia Music composed by Andrew Shapiro Video by Francisco R. Lopez In a time where television is the backdrop to our daily lives, where communication happens through mediation (cell phone, fax, email) more frequently than it does through face to face discussion, where we are less likely to feel and more likely to think - in this time, About Silence meditates on life, love and obsession. Each night of About Silence is cast with different performers followed by a different musical act. Tuesday, August 17th: Proto-Type Theater's ABOUT SILENCE with Artistic Directors Ellie Covan (Dixon Place), Kristen Marting (HERE Arts Center) and Mark Russell (formerly, P.S. 122) followed by a HOWL opening night party. Wednesday, August 18th: Proto-Type Theater's ABOUT SILENCE with Proto-Type Theater's Thomas J. Pilutik, Normandy Sherwood and Carlton Ward and 12th Street Playboys. The 12th Street Playboys are a New York-based band that plays the traditional Cajun dance music of Louisiana. Accordionist Nick Beaudoing, fiddler Henry Hample, and guitarist Kevin Anthony all met at a Cajun music workshop in Louisiana in April. Thursday, August 19th: Proto-Type Theater's ABOUT SILENCE with Mabou Mines' Clove Galilee, Frederick Neumann & Ruth Maleczech and musical guest Rachelle Garniez. Rachelle Garniez, singer/songwriter/accordionist, was born into a musical family, and has been devoted to music ever since. She began playing accordion in 1986, and her explorations have taken her from playing on the subway platforms of New York City to jamming with gypsies in Spain to performing at carnivals in Italy. Her compositions reflect influences ranging from the blues, continental and klezmer to latin, jazz and country/western. Friday, August 20th: Proto-Type Theater's ABOUT SILENCE with Proto-type Theater's Glenn Kessler, Peter S. Petralia and Jenny Seastone Stern and Musical Guest Jessica Delfino. Jessica Delfino is a writer, a filthy stand-up comedian and singer of "Dirty Folk Rock", a genre of music she made up, consisting mostly of songs about her and other people's vaginas, butts and additional topics of depravity. Her vulgar songs poke fun at topics that might normally make people cringe. Saturday, August 21st: Proto-Type Theater's ABOUT SILENCE featuring Burlesque Stars Julie Atlas Muz, Mistress Joy and Tigger and Musical Guests Helen Stratford and Rebecca Moore. Helen Stratford sings and plays accordion at clubs and venues all over NYC. Rebecca Moore has performed venues including LaMama, P.S. 122 and Cooper Union. She is currently working on her third CD, to be released in the Oracles series on John Zorn's Tzadik record label.
