WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Based on Frank Schaeffer's novel, Portofino is set in the Italian Riviera resort in the summer of 1963. It is the story of Calvin Becker and what happens when he and his family of well-meaning American missionaries collide with la dolce vita. In the midst of this cross-cultural comedy are two poignant love stories?one of first love and one of lasting love. The novel has been translated into this musical comedy with music and lyrics by Mark Wilder, and book by Schaeffer, WIlder, and Frank Gruber.
