WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Why do you write something on Paper instead of jotting it elsewhere? What's the significance? What are the consequences? How many times do you touch paper during the day? Why? What do you do when you don't have it? How much of a problem is it? If this is a digital age, why are we using more paper than ever? If the internet rules, why do newsPAPERs still sell like hotcakes? What's with snail mail? Why does it still exist and when is it leaving? What about PAPER money?
TheDrillingCompany, known for its single themed evenings, has chosen PAPER for its April project. The company is
based on jazz. The chosen theme, like the melody line for jazz musicians, is a springboard for invention for playwrights and visual artists. Past evenings have included THEFT, THE SERVICE PROJECT, and FATHERS among others.
With a score composed by R&B singer/songwriter/producer Rock Wilk and an art installation by NurtureArt the April event is taking on the feel of a 60's happening. Brian Dykstra, Paul Siefken, Edward Manning, Suzanne Bradbeer, and Renee Flemings, and Stephen Bittrich are six of the commissioned artists whose work has already been seen in other TDC projects.
