What are other members saying?
HEAR ME WITH THE EYES.
I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE MORE FLAMENCO DANCING BY MS. ANAYA. THE CANTAOR AND THE GUITARRISTS WERE AMAZING. THE STORY GOES WELL WITH THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, SEEMS LIKE THE INTERNAL STRUGGLE OF A CLOISTERED NUN WISHING TO BE BACK IN THE "REAL" WORLD???WELL, IT WAS AN INTERESTING SHOW, THE IDEA OF A FUSION OF FLAMENCO WITH CONTEMPORARY SOUNDS APPEALING. HOWEVER WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE MORE FLAMENCO MUSIC AND DANCING BY THE ARTIST. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SHOW.

RE:Hear me with the eyes...
Hear me with the eyes is the story of Sor Juana, a cloister nun who lived in the 17th century and wrote about her internal battle with a society ruled by men. Perhaps the kind of story you read about during lent. The shows performer Maria elena Anaya, a well known mexican flamenco dancer did a wonderful job opening with a flamenco dance. However, the pauses in between scenes were long. She has a wonderful group of guitarrists and a "cantaor" that are well worth to be heard of. At some point I lost track of the story and would have loved to see Ms. Anaya perform more flamenco. I wonder if this a show geared to the lent season or the upcoming Holy week for christians. Otherwise, the theatre doesnt do Ms. Anaya a favor. It would have been nice to see her perform in a different setting with her musicians and cantaor around her. It is like a fusion of contemporary dance and flamenco..well LA MAMA is an experimental theater. I take off my hat to Ms. Anaya for trying to be different this time, but I would have loved to see her perform more of what she does the best....dance more flamenco!
