WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Lies. Betrayal. Murder. Suicide. Othello is an African man in a European society, a Muslim in a Christian world. He is feared and respected as Venice's foremost general in the army. But when he marries a white woman, he steps over the line. Fueled by racism, ambition, and rage, his trusted friend Iago manipulates him into suspecting that his new wife has been unfaithful. Othello's suspicion, stoked skillfully by Iago, bubbles over into murder and suicide, destroying the lives of everyone involved. Scott Cargle directs for the Shakespeare Project in parks throughout New York City.
