On Campus

A well-written play by Steve Sherman that takes us back to our college days when were all looking to connect and be seen. I laughed out loud many times, especially when Jake Millgard was on stage - he has great comedic timing, and a strong presence. A well-paced production that left me feeling like I just read a really good story, On Campus reflects us back to ourselves, with warmth and satisfaction. Im looking forward to Sherman & Millgards next play already.

Beautiful story of love and its many possibilities. Sometimes tragic, but always revealing. Well done.

Excellent!!

It is so refreshing to see so many talented young actors working together on stage. Steves writing is excellent, fresh and relevant and the performances were so connected and honest. I found myself reliving my some of my own college experiences while watching. So worth seeing such a wonderful piece. Everyone should go!!

A Thoughtful Show

When you go to the LABA Theatre at the 14th St. Y to see ON CAMPUS, youll get lost in a thoughtful story, connect with sincere characters, and have clever scenes replaying in your head days later. To put it simply, I had a great time. Sherman has a true gift for creating young adult characters, people we can all connect with on some level. Under the direction of Marc Santa Maria, this team of talented actors truly brings Shermans story of young adults addressing their fears and finding themselves, to life. Be prepared for some belly laughs and maybe some tears. No doubt youll enjoy yourself.

Refreshing & Memorable

On Campus made me feel like I was back in college. The real depiction of what happens during those life changes moments is brought to the forefront by the great writing of Steve Sherman and his strong cast. Memories went rushing by as I related with many characters on stage. You could sense the strong cohesiveness of the ensemble cast along with the brilliant chemistry of Jake Millgard and Steve Sherman! They are well on their way to becoming major players in the acting and writing world. The only criticism I have is that there were problems with the lighting where the actors faces were lost in the darkness due to lights not going on when they were supposed to and being blocked by the hanging frames to represent the ceiling of each dorm room. It was opening night however and Im very sure this has already been remedied. COME SEE THIS SHOW!

Very tight and powerful show...

Last night I attended "On Campus" at the Laba Theater on 14th street and was amazed at how well put together this show was from start to finish! The space was so well utilized that I couldnt help but keep my eyes and attention on the story. The show takes place in several different dorm rooms and offices at a University and they are all laid out for us to see each of them at the same time. Very clever and I would like to commend the director, Marc Santa Maria. The show deals with some very heavy subjects of sex, depression, and death at such a young and confusing time in life, but this is handled so carefully by such a strong cast and with a perfect balance of humor and intensity. The script is tight and every scene has real texture and genuine tension. There is no time wasted and I appreciated that as an audience member. Its been a long time since Ive left the theater of an off off Broadway show and felt so satisfied. Great job guys! I would just say that I think this is a great way to spend an evening at the Theatre. Thank you!

RE:Heartfelt

I felt that On Campus had an accurate depiction of how optimistic, confusing, and intense college life can be. Plasencia and Saunders were rich in passion and culture. Steve Shermans performance was heartfelt and warm. Jake Millgard gave a wonderful comedic performance that was very genuine and refreshing. The singing scene of Sonny and Cher between these two roommates made me laugh till I was in tears and reminded me of my old college days with my roommate. I will definitely be seeing this play again!
