WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Amphibian Productions kicks off its 2004 season with a New Play Development program followed by a gala benefit event. April 17th @ 2:00pm Hot Season (by Evan Mueller) explores the dynamic between a group of family and friends in the near, unspecified future when an outbreak of disease forces people to flee the crowded cities and wait out the epidemic in the isolation of the countryside. Although this small group tries to maintain life as normal, the effects of the disease inevitably alter their relationships. Directed by Kevin Kittle. April 17th @ 8:00pm Triptych (by Joel Chace) explores the mystery of a family's reunion at a place both theirs yet not theirs. These six characters struggle to make sense of where they are, who they are, and why they are once more together. Meanwhile, the outside world closes in. Directed by David Miller. April 18th @ 8:00pm Europa's Child (by Adam Klasfeld) adapts Shakespeare's The Tempest in the context of the actual English settlement of Bermuda to provide an allegory for current events. Sir George Sommers (the "real" Prospero) lands on a "deserted" island after military operations in the Irish province of Ulster. Searching for a husband for his daughter, he calls for the king to send him more settlers, but the English ship brings an disgruntled Irish boatswain who plots a coup on the island. Directed by Elaine Molinaro. The post-reading reception and company fundraiser will be held on April 19th from 6:30pm until closing at People Lounge (163 Allen Street). Take the F train to 2nd Avenue. There is a $10.00 suggested donation for the fundraiser at the door.
