WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

When Mort Sahl hit the stage in 1953 he revolutionized comedy. Adorned in collegiate attire and armed with a rolled up newspaper, he imparted his take on everything from politics to women. He was the first standup comic to release a comedy album (in the late '50s), the first performer to ever appear on the cover of TIME Magazine, and the first non-musician to win a Grammy. He wrote speeches and jokes for political figures of all persuasions - John F. Kennedy, Adlai Stevenson, George Bush, and Alexander Haig. Ten presidents and twelve elections later, the legendary Mort Sahl will reinvade New York where he will be waging his best ground war yet on the state of the union, and the state of the world in 2004.

Presented by WestBeth Entertainment and Paula Holt.
