WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Rick Foster's Love, Isadora presents Isadora Duncan - the revolutionary, iconoclastic genius of early modern dance - in all her complexity. Having burst onto the world stage a century ago, the great artist became known for many things - her ability to hold audiences of a thousand spellbound, her idealistic attempts to establish schools of dance which she was convinced would change the course of civilization (and her failure to do so), her naive attempts to speak profoundly on matters she hadn't bothered to study, the tragic drowning of her two children, and her brave tour of small Russian cities in the early years of the Revolution. Treating the audience to a wild journey through her love affairs, artistic zeal, marvelous performances and personal tragedies, the play takes place in the instant of Duncan's bizarre death, when her neck was broken after her scarf got caught in the wheel of a sports car. The show leaves audiences inspired by her passionate desire to bring a "free art with free spirits with free bodies" to the masses.

Award winning writer Rick Foster is known for his irony and artistry. Drawing the audience deep into his plays by creating key hole perspectives into the emotional life and psyche of his historical characters, he is adept at creating moments of laughter followed by serious and sometimes desperate situations.

Choreography for Love, Isadora is inspired by the work of Isadora Duncan, staged and reworked with additional choreography by Tracy Eisenberg.
