WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
In Lion's Den, the performer stages a memorial after receiving news of a friend?s death. Trying to unlock the mystery of the loss, he begins an intimate investigation into the life of the dead young man and is shocked to discover the events which lead to his friend?s demise -- and the legacy he left behind. Two unfinished works are found among his effects. As the performer/memorialist wrestles with his own responsibility for his friend's fate, he pieces together a puzzle that illuminates the lives of three men who are connected through 500 years of history, and discovers the secrets of the prison that trapped each man in his final days. Writer/performer Scott Blumenthal (hailed by the Philadelphia Inquirer as ??a compelling, luminous performer?a gifted writer as well?) stars in this one-man show directed by Carlos Murillo.
Relatively Theater?s production of Lion?s Den marks the culminating event of the first annual NewShpiels project which focuses on the development of new plays on themes of Jewish identity.
