WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Stone Soup Theatre Art's third original creation exploring a contemporary social issue, Just the Front is directed by Artistic Director Nadine Friedman. The ensemble cast of nine includes resident company members who have been with Stone Soup since its inception in 2001. The company, committed to producing high quality socially relevant theatre, has spent past seasons examining human rights in China and immigration. The current season, The Way We Work Now, explores labor and began with a sold-out run of Vaclav Havel's The Memorandum. Just the Front is set in 1930's America and follows four individuals in a time plagued by economic uncertainty. The play, created by the ensemble through research, improvisation and workshop, juxtaposes today's knowledge of economic recession, labor standards and sexual and racial politics with moments leading up to December 7th, 1941. This allegorical production aims to find a link between then and now, featuring universal characters - their journeys and destinations, their problems and solutions. As has become tradition in Stone Soup's work, the play features period as well as anachronistic music. A band, composed of a guitar, clarinet and two vocalists, along with a radio announcer, provide narration that links the audience to the world onstage. Additional matinees: Sunday 3/14 and Saturday 3/20 at 2PM. March 12 is "First Front Friday." Tickets to the show and party are $20.00 or $10.00 for the party only. ***Special Free Performances for Community, Activist, and Theatre groups. Wednesday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 16 at 8PM. For reservations call 516-835-9955*** Appropriate for audiences 10 and up.
