WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Ranging from the poetic to the all-out hilarious, Just Like a Man employs personal anecdotes, confessions and other tall tales in an unflinching look at "maledom." In this dynamic solo performance, Fernando Maneca explores a variety of male stereotypes including an uneasy gunslinger, abused teen, tired white collar worker, drag queen, angry middle-aged male, sexual predator, new age poet, primitive hunter and South American lover. These scenes are connected by a series of video interviews with real people who were asked, "what is a real man?"
Deconstructing a morning commute to work inhabited by a Wall Street broker, a receptionist, a bike messenger, a homeless man and the crowd that surrounds them, Today I Am Feeling a Bit Less Cynical examines an individual's worth within society. Divergent paths converge and clash as both the internal and external lives of these characters appear simultaneously on stage and through video projections. The performance merges movement with media to look at these diverse individuals and the rigors of coping within modern society.
