Twenty-nine Off and Off-Off Broadway Companies band together to present The Ionesco Festival, which is a celebration of the "Theater of the Absurd."

Along with the many full length productions of Ionesco's work, this festival features also a shorts program. Before every full-length production, various theater companies present shorts, some of the many plays Ionesco wrote that are between 5 and 15 minutes in length. The shorts are not attached to any production. They rove from evening to evening so that an audience member may find any of them as a curtian raiser before the show.

Readings of Ionesco's work are also held on certain evenings at different venues. One of the highlight readings is a celebrity presentation of The Chairs, which is at The Player's Club on November 4.
