WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Theater Ten Ten presents Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe, or The Peer (nobleman) and the Peri (Fairy).

In an intimate jewel box setting, the audience will be able to hear every word of Gilbert's legendary lyrics, while being surround-sounded with Sullivan's soaring melodies. Producing Artistic Director Judith Jarosz directs and choreographs, with new arrangements and musical direction by Matt Castle.

Schedule

May 1- 3, 7 -10, 14-17, 21-24, 27-30.
All Fri., Sat., & Mon. performances are at 8:00 p.m. Thurs, May 27 is an early 7:00 p.m. curtain.
All Sunday performances are 3:00pm matinees.

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

It doesn't look promising at all. You walk down a cinder-block stairway to a church basement, where a wall phone is festooned with the legend "Welcome Thee to Fairyland." Instead of a proscenium setup, the audience is crowded onto the stage itself, seated on 30-odd metal folding chairs placed on risers and facing a flimsy green backdrop that looks something like the "Enchanted Forest" set from that I Love Lucy episode. Taped Gilbert & Sullivan music is playing but the live orchestra consists of one electric piano perched precariously at a corner of the stage. It seems like Theater Ten Ten's Iolanthe is going to be a long afternoon.

A chorus of only three lady fairies flits on, clad in green[...]
