WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Center for Remembering & Sharing invites you to the launch of its new resident performance company, Foreign Service, featuring new works commissioned for the occasion from Center Artist-in-Residence Masumi Kishimoto and choreographer Mina Nishimura (setting work on four Center Artists-in-Residence), as well as a work-in-progress by Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company member Jennifer Nugent (with fellow company member Asli Bulbul) that has been further developed with the support of from the Center.
Each of the pieces takes a vastly different route to explore the hunger for human connection that fuels so many of our thoughts and actions. We chose these artists to bring Foreign Service to life precisely for their desire to place desire under a microscope. You will find that Foreign Service will never stray far from this theme.
This is the first time since the opening of CRS that the Center has commissioned work or presented work outside CRS.
About the Program:
Waiting for connection
Choreographed by Masumi Kishimoto
Performed by Kate Griffler, Masumi Kishimoto, and Kanako Yokota
This piece humorously portrays the hidden emotions and thoughts that people have. "You do not know why you are reaching to connect."
Y?N
Choreographed by Mina Nishimura
Performed by Rie Fukuzawa, Hazuki Homma, Rie Hyodo, and Aya Shibahara
Contrasting spatially and temporally clear structures with text and movement vocabularies that play with the idea of exaggerated ambiguity, Y?N explores the essence of the unspoken nuances communicated between four Japanese women interacting in a girlish manner common among Japanese.
I'd Go Out With You
Choreographed by Jennifer Nugent
Performed by Asli Bulbul & Jennifer Nugent
Music composed by Sam Crawford
Music performed live by Elaina Morgan & Sam Crawford
This is a duet of a woman. Finding her through her. Wanting her. Carrying her. Waiting. Arriving. Inseparable but with no resolution no finale.
