WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Hip-Hop Bards features two incomparable hip-hop theater artists - both of whom have appeared on Russell Simmon's Def Poetry Jam on HBO - presenting highlights from their acclaimed solo shows. Fresh from her role in the extended run of The Whore of Sheridan Square at La Mama, Etc, Vanessa Hidary is a native New Yorker and the "Hebrew Mamita." Her solo show Culture Bandit chronicles her coming of age during the golden age of Hip-Hop. Los Angeles based Joseph Hernandez-Kolski is familiar to Manhattanites as the host/creator of TVs Not So Foreign Filmmakers Showcase on Channel 154. Kolski warms up at Galapagos in advance of the run of his show You Wanna Piece of Me? at the New York International Fringe Festival. Kolski developed the work at the Electric Lodge in Venice, California and performed the show to acclaim at the San Francisco Hip-Hop Theater Festival earlier this year.
