WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
A sharp satire on reality television, God is a DJ is a glimpse into the soulless lives of a couple - a former TV presenter and a DJ - who have turned their lives into spectacle and, for $2000 a session, perform their lives into a live camera for the entertainment of the internet public. Using eight video cameras, cell phones and a live internet feed, this production riffs on reality TV, youth culture and virtual reality in its encompassing critique of mass media's influence on contemporary relationships. Original mixes of trance, hip-hop and electronica play a narrative role.
There are additional performances on Sunday, June 6 and Monday, June 7 at 8pm.

The programs handed out for the second production -- don't call it a sophomore effort! -- of the bold Theater Faction are vintage vinyl LPs repackaged so as to feature the company's signature neon-orange branding. Biographical information about the crew can be found on the album sleeve along with assorted quotations from such contemporary thinkers as Naomi Klein (No Logo) and Posh Spice (Spice World). The company critiques consumerism in the language of consumerism for an audience of consumers; theatergoers can buy the art retro set pieces in the lobby after the show and are instructed to keep the records inside the programs. (I got an Otis Redding album.)
