WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The world premiere of a pro-capitalist adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Finally, Ebenezer Scrooge is revealed to be a force for good!
New York Times:
Janet Hopf actually elevates the old miser in her interesting God Bless You, Mister Scrooge!, in which the fellow who in Dickens is so easily manipulated by those ghosts is given a backbone. He debates economics with the apparitions, offers capitalism's arguments against encouraging people to rely on handouts, and apologizes for nothing.
"My wealth is a measure not of what I take from the world but what I give to it," he says. Jan-Peter Pedross is quite good as Scrooge, and Marley's ghost (Marc Geller) is creepy as can be, making the already chilly La Tea Theater at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural Center on the Lower East Side even more so.

Like this version better than the usual
Loved this take on a classic-putting a positive value on honesty, hard work, and thrift instead of treating them as character flaws. A must see. Actors playing Scrooge and Marley are excellent, costumes are good, and the rest of the cast is very talented. Loved the comic touches and interesting twists. Much better than the usual tired ho hum Scrooge plays this time of year.

A great way to spend an evening this holiday season. We loved it.
I had a friend visiting from Texas and I wanted to take him to some local theatre instead of a big Broadway production. We were both impressed at how in such an intimate theatre setting a whole other world opens up right in front of your eyes. The cast was super diverse. Caitlyn Williams who played Tiny Tim and Fann was a delight to listen to. The costumes were great and Jan-Peter Pedross played a better Scrooge than I have seen at much bigger productions. After a day of holiday shopping, I would definitely go see this and it is in a very cool space, a very New York edgy type of place, excellent to take out-of-town guests.
