Be prepared to put your modern ideals to the test and your moral choices into perspective. This provocative and ambitious Queens Players production is set in a minimalist stage full of blacks and grays and shadows that highlight the struggle each character goes through when questioning their life choices set against the beautiful and vibrant lighting of the natural world.
Mrs. Helen Alving, is a woman who has done her rightful duty all of her life in front of her community and colleagues, but behind closed doors had a never ending struggle to keep control of her life; On the tenth anniversary of her late husband's death she plans on ridding herself, and her only son, Oswald of everything that belonged to Captain Alving, who was the cause of all her years of turmoil; this task proves to be incredibly difficult as she faces the ghosts of her past. Reconnecting with an old friend and spiritual advisor Pastor Manders, Mrs. Alving tries to do right by Regina, her young maid whom she has educated and cared for as a daughter, as well as Regina's often-misguided and amusingly flawed father Engstrand. Her efforts to remain in control of her life and keep her only family left show us that even after ten years of trying hard to erase the painful memory of life it is very hard to escape the past that still haunts us.
