WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Presented as part of the Under The Radar festival.
created by Rude Mechs
directed by Shawn Sides
adapted by Kirk Lynn et al from the work of David Rees
Rude Mechanicals (a.k.a. Rude Mechs) continue their slog through the near-infinite modes of performance, this time toeing the line agit-prop theatre has drawn in the sands of these troubled times. Using David Rees' savage and hysterical internet comic strip "Get Your War On" to combat the mainstream media's cultural amnesia about the sins of the current administration, the Rude Mechs cuss and spit through six years worth of disappointment, horror, and shame. With nothing more than five overhead projectors and public domain clip-art, Get Your War On represents stunned and outraged Americans as they react to 9/11, the Bush administration, and its "totally awesome" War On Terror. "Hey, remember when we declared a War on Drugs and now you can't buy drugs anymore? It'll be just like that!"
Additional Perf: Monday January 22 5PM
No Perf: Tuesday January 23
Due to the strong language and themes, this show is not recommended for anyone under the age of 16, unless accompanied by an adult.

Sharp, ironic, and often hilarious, the Austin-based Rude Mechs' presentation of Get Your War On is adapted from David Rees' popular Internet cartoon of the same name, which is now also published in Rolling Stone. Rees began writing the fiercly political strip in October 2001 and has chronicled everything from the beginning of Operation: Enduring Freedom, to the Anthrax scare, Bush's plans to send manned spacecraft to Mars, the Mark Foley scandal, and the hanging of Saddam Hussein. All of the above find their way into the Mechs' script, penned by Kirk Lynn with members of the company and directed with a potent mixture of passion and whimsy by Shawn Sides.
