The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) nurtures the creation, production, and public presentation of stylistically, thematically, and culturally diverse new musicals to ensure the future vitality of musical theater. In 2013, NYMF received a Drama Desk Award for its efforts. This year's festival features everything from an adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray to a musical about Backbeard, the hairiest pirate ever. Planet Connections changes the landscape of New York theater this year. The award-winning Theatre Festivity runs June 12 - July 9, 2017 at The Clemente. www.planetconnections.org.
Planet Connections' artists use their work to shed light on causes that matter and inspire audiences to get involved. PCTF's artists raise awareness for an organization or topic of their own selection. PCTF is the country's first eco-friendly arts festivity sporting "green" marketing and promotional materials. The relationships formed during the festivity turn PCTF artists into leaders and inspirations within the industry. Since its inception, Planet Connections has presented more than 250 Full Theater Productions, nearly 100 Staged Readings, and has made a difference to more than 300 charities.
The SheNYC Summer Theater Festival is the only New York City festival devoted entirely to full-length plays and musicals by women writers. Each of our eight shows — which include two original musicals, five new plays, and a Shakespeare adaptation — will get two performances.
Dixon Place proudly presents the 26th Annual HOT! Festival, the NYC annual celebration of LGBTQ culture featuring over 100 artists. Headlining the festival is transgender actor and comedian D'Lo's solo work To T, or Not to T, a hilariously intimate reflection on taking t(estosterone) and his experiences transitioning. In this work, D'Lo takes on over 15 characters and fuses spoken word, stand-up comedy, theatre, film, and music production, drawing on his journey as a transgender Sri Lankan-American.
Hailed as "The best LBGTQ Theater Festival in New York" by The Village Voice, the HOT! Festival continues its celebration this year July 5th to August 3rd.
