WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

"Do you still dream? I started drawing faces, one by one. Faces of the girls, women… I don't want to try to forget anymore. I draw to remember..." Face is a lyrical rendition of a girl's story who survived two wars, violence and rape. Her story moves through vivid images, extreme brutality, and daring questions about violence and history. Based on the book of testimonies of Comfort women, who are survivors of sexual slavery by the Japanese army during World War II, this work is an earnest theatrical experiment to give a face and voice to the suppressed history. This is presented as part of the 6th Annual soloNova Arts Festival, celebrating excellence in solo performance and visual art.
