WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Jarrod returns from Berlin with opinions on bratwurst, humiliation, and tipping etiquette. But before he can fully explore his newfound philosophies, his former girlfriend, Ekatarina, bursts onto the scene. Yep, she wants money for their illegitimate child again, the one Jarrod left when he ran off to Europe. Soon enough Hazel, Ekatarina's sister, appears. Initially she's here to negotiate the reunification of Jarrod and her sis. But something else blossoms, and fades. An unusual take on love, loss, and one man's attempt at transformation and transcendence, Das Brat features dance, musical interludes, spooning, rap, and the odd massage. The play is written and directed by Eric Bland, and presented by An Old Kent Road Theater.
Part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.

The Maternal Instinct
Lillian doesn't think she'll make a good mother, but this has nothing to do with her being a lesbian. In Monica Bauer's funny and moving new play The Maternal Instinct, the playwright sidesteps issues of morality that are often examined by works dealing with gay parenthood. Instead, she focuses on the hopes and fears that the situation can provoke for a couple.
As the play opens, Lillian (Karen Woodward Massey) is celebrating her 40th birthday in the company of her girlfriend Sarah (Alisha Jansky), her best friend and colleague[...]
