WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theater offers Christmas Carol, Oy! Hanukkah, Merry Kwanzaa, Happy Ramadan. This toy-puppet theatre extravaganza is a new take on Charles Dickens' classic with a few twists, resulting in an unexpected blend of English, Jewish, African, American and Czech winter rituals, customs, and holiday songs. Puppet master Vit Horejs performs with over three dozen marionettes ranging in size from 4 to 34 inches as well as found objects and toys. Czech, English, Hebrew, & Swahili songs will be performed by The Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre's choir, comprised of Frances Devine and Gail Whitmore. The piece is still set in Old London, but with Czech accents. Imagine that the familiar tale was told to you not by an English serial novelist, but by your Czech grandmother.
Adapted and directed by Vít Horejs, it features over 30 puppets by Milos Kasal and holiday songs in Czech, English, Hebrew & Swahili. Set and costume design are by Michelle Beshaw.
There will be special matinees on Saturday, December 24 & 31 at 3pm and Sundays, December 18 and January 1 at 5pm
