Love Creek invites you to join them in celebrating Christmas American-style, and our gift to you are two plays.
The first, Where the Snowflakes Bloom, is by Love Creek founder Le Wilhelm. This is only one of Le's many holiday plays, but always especially poignant and moving. On a very cold Christmas Eve, the night watchman at a New York office building must make a choice between helping two homeless women stay warm or losing his job.
Also, we are very proud to present The Long Christmas Dinner by Thornton Wilder. Time moves by in blinks of the eyes for the Bayard family as Christmas dinners come and go and come and go for 90 years. The play ponders what lasts, what truly endures, and what is fleeting and momentary.
Little Red Riding Hood sets out through the forest to bring food to her grandmother. But who is in grandmother's bed when she gets there? Can a little girl in a red cape outfox a big bad wolf? For children 4 and up.
The year is 2006, and there's been a big shake-up in the Milky Way: Pluto has been reclassified as a dwarf planet!
When news of its demotion reaches the small planetoid, Pluto leaves the solar system on a cosmic journey, meeting groovy satellites, fun-loving gas giants, and a galaxy of other celestial oddballs on its quest to become a planet again.
Pluto Is Missing! is a family-friendly space comedy that blends music, puppets, and fantasy with real science and space exploration history. You'll leave the theater with your head full of catchy songs and astronomical knowledge!
Created by Chris Mann Script and music by Chris Mann and Emily Duncan
A story of enduring friendship and the journey of a young girl who travels through many lands to rescue her friend Kay. Kay has been whisked away by the enchanting Snow Queen. Gerda sets off an adventure to find him and bring him back home. For children 5 and up.
Following the 2016 hit production of A Christmas Carol, the award-winning company Blessed Unrest returns to the New Ohio this holiday season with a contemporary riff on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, tailored for the entire 21st-century family (ideal for children 7 and up). This story of a fearless young woman on a quest to save her friend from a frozen world devoid of feelings features the troupe's signature physicality, magical transformations, extravagant costumes, and modern humor. Written by Matt Opatrny, directed by Jessica Burr, and developed by Blessed Unrest in a yearlong New Victory LabWorks residency, The Snow Queen presents the title character as a metaphor for the cool allure of modern technology.
While many children's theater troupes tell stories to kids, The Story Pirates believe that every kid has a story to tell. Made up of professional actors, improv comedians, and teaching artists, this troupe uses stories written by elementary school students as source material for over-the-top, sidesplitting musical plays. With songs, props, music videos, and puppets, the Story Pirates bring to life onstage what children have put down on paper (and computer).
At a typical show, there is no typical. Topics range from kung fu ninja babies fighting crime to the eternal love between the devil and a guy she meets at Starbucks. It's a world where cats can fly and Tickle Monsters have been known to take over the world. If the show sells out, the audience is treated to ice cream and cookies at the end!
Discover the secrets of your favorite neighborhood or museum on a Watson Adventures Scavenger Hunt. You won't be collecting objects (put back that statue!) but searching for answers to tricky and humorous questions. You can decipher a message in the sky in Central Park, find out what to do with a "fun goon" in Chinatown, track ghosts in Greenwich Village, solve a murder mystery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and much more. No knowledge of any hunt location is required — you just need a sharp mind and a good pair of shoes.
