WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Cherry Lane Alternative, dedicated to the development of the American theater artist, presents its annual Mentor Project. This program pairs some of America's most renowned playwrights with today's most promising new writers. Working together the plays develop from a series of readings and discussions into full productions.
Presentations:
Out of Sterno (April 2-13) - Deborah Zoe Laufer's play tells the story of a woman whose husband hasn't let her leave their appartment or speak to anyone else in seven years. Marsha Norman mentors; Eleanor Reissa directs.
99 Histories (April 23-May 4)- Julia Cho's play discusses memory, legacy, and the bond between mother and child as a mother comes home to decide what to do with the baby that has unexpectedly taken root inside her. David Henry Hwang mentors.
Sixteen Wounded (May 14-25) - Eliam Kraiem's play tells the story of a man who is literally torn apart by his sense of national duty and his own gradual acceptance of the West. Michael Weller mentors; Matt August directs.
