Lev Dodin's prodcution of Brothers and Sisters for the Maly Drama Theatre caused a sensation on its debut in the early days of glasnost. Dodin's taboo-breaking, deeply moving stage adaptation of Abramov's epic novel portrays the hopes of Russian villagers for life, love, and liberty as they endure war-time privations and how those hopes are extinguished. The show has became a beacon for Russian theater and established the Maly virtually overnight as the country's pre-eminent theater company. This wonder of ingenious stagecraft and breathtaking artistry by a 40-strong acting ensemble?-which is performed in Russian with English supertitles-?is presented in an epic two-part cycle.
Part 1 plays on July 11, 13, 15 (2pm), and 16 (2pm) while Part 2 plays on July 12, 14, 15 (7pm), and 16 (7pm). Each part is sold separately.
