WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Motormouth Mary, in association with the critically-acclaimed International WOW Company, presents the premiere of Box, an original theatrical collaboration.
Set in a 12 x 16 foot laboratory, BOX is, in essence, a clown piece. The life of the Scientist is reduced to the simplest routines: she sleeps, she eats, she thinks. We laugh because we see in her solitude the things most human in all of us: our desire to understand our lives, our comfort in the routines that compose our day, and our attempt to better ourselves. Bald, with skin whitened like a wraith, and wearing a lab coat plastered with years of notes, meanderings and theorems, the Scientist (played by Connie Hall) resembles a walking pile of paper. The character is a descendent of the Bouffant as developed by master mime Jacques LeCoq, closer to an angel or a being of pure thought than a human being. Similarly, the Rabbit (played by Gina Hirsch) is a demon who has crawled up from the depths. She is a twisted, absurdist, destroyer of language and! logic, like a stuffed animal who has taken far, far too much Ritalin and chased it with Jolt Cola.
