Known for its innovative interpretation of beloved classics, Extant Arts Company turns the focus of its 2010 season from the royal dramas of Shakespeare and the Greeks to the more intimate-- but no less powerful-- struggles of working people. Reflecting on the Great Recession and its impact, Extant Arts explores a world where laughter and tragedy are experienced on an everyday scale: in the loss of a job, the excitement of a new flirtation, the frustration of a failed dream.

Extant Arts opens the season this January with the melancholy romance Blue Surge by the acclaimed contemporary playwright, Rebecca Gilman. Blue Surge confronts the American taboo of class through the experiences of a small-town cop who struggles to "save" a young hooker.
