WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Inspired by The Tibetan Book of the Dead (the book traditionally read at the time of one's death by a spiritual teacher who serves as a guide through the in-between places connecting death and rebirth), Blue Sky Transmission: A Tibetan Book of the Dead is a Western exploration of the Eastern philosophies of death, as told through a modern-day woman who, upon her death, is accompanied by a mysterious escort through a mystical, haunting journey.

The Cleveland Public Theater production of Blue Sky Transmission, having its New York premiere at La MaMa Annex on West 4th Street, is the second show recently to address our individual preparedness for death, the other notable example being Tuesdays with Morrie. But the CPT piece, which premiered in Cleveland on September 13 of this year, takes a diametrically different approach to the material.
Clearly, the traumatic terrorist attacks of 15 months ago made artists and audiences more willing to examine this always-relevant issue.
