Black Man Rising, by J. Chapmyn, takes the strength, wisdom and fortitude of black manhood and places it on the stage. The choreopoem deals with rising above expectations, establishing a sense of self, and honoring the ancestors. It combines step dancing, gospel music, rap, poetry and monologues to celebrate the history and triumphs of Black men. "There are passages in this play that have the ability to bring about enlightenment to all races." -- cast member Lawrence Saint-Victor
