WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Jim Simpson (director of the Obie-Award winning production of Benten Kozo) directs Brecht's first play, in a new American translation by Peter Mellencamp. Baal, the original delinquent hipster poet, burns through men, women, and finally himself in the fierce pursuit of his appetites and his art. The production is set in America, circa 1947, referencing Kerouac, Charlie Parker, Dean Moriarty, and others. The show features The Bat Theater Company's young resident acting company, The Bats (formerly known as The Furballs), as well as a driving original jazz score played by a live band.
