WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The Metropolitan Playhouse, New York's leading explorer of America's theatrical heritage, concludes its season of Friends and Foes with Arden of Faversham, a murder comedy from the 1590's.

Based on a sensational true story of the late 16th Century (chronicled in
detail in Holinshead), and written by an author or authors unknown, The Lamentable Tragedy of Master Arden of Faversham follows Alice Arden, her lover Thomas Mosby, and a gallery of rogues and rakes as they plot to murder her husband Arden, an avaricious landowner. Through one turn after another, the scheme goes awry, and there truly is no honor among
thieves. But with poisoning, knifing, bludgeoning, shooting, and
strangling to boot . . . can the oblivious Arden escape with his life? A
comical tragedy based on the Lacey Peterson scandal of its day, Arden of
Faversham is a funny and cautionary tale that speaks to the worst in all of us.

There are two added performances Wednesdays, May 5th and 12th.
