WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Julie Herbert's gripping drama Almost Asleep employs five different women to portray the different aspects of one woman's mind as she falls asleep one night after a confusing and humiliating encounter with her male employer earlier in the day. During this state of semi-consciousness, a memory of rape triggers the release of long-repressed emotion. The play explores the long-term repercussions of rape for a woman, rather than the immediate aftermath. In an attempt to find reconciliation and sleep, the woman battles herself only to realize the only resolve is to be one step healthier than the day before.
