Algarin's Mongo Affair presents an all-star spoken word and musical extravaganza featuring special guest artists Savion Glover, Ray Barretto, Carl Hancock Rux, Bobbi Humphrey, Hazelle Goodman, Vissi Dance Theater and Amiri Baraka. Titled after the groundbreaking first book of poetry published in 1978 by legendary Nuyorican poet Miguel Algarin, Mongo Affair captures the excitement of the historical work through the infusion of poetry with live Jazz, Latin and Funk music, dance performances and Caribbean/African DJ tracks. The regular players include Algarin, Reg E. Gaines, DJ Sabine, Caridad de la Luz aka LA BRUJA, Calvin Gaines, Maya Smullyan-Jenkins, Alexandria Bradley and Emanuel Xavier. This special ADH edition and its last New York City performance is directed by Reg E. Gaines, the Tony and Grammy award-nominated writer of Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk.
