WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Fresh Fruit Festival presents Ain't We Got Fun!, featuring a book by Michel McFaden. This offbeat original musical extravaganza takes place in a Chicago Prohibition Era speakeasy, and focuses on the timeless theme of two boys in love. They dance, sing and kiss-while fighting all obstacles that keeps them apart and that includes a stock market crash, a gaggle of gangsters, bootlegged alcohol, and the closet. For his musical, McFadden unearthed a treasure trove of little known foot-tapping tunes from the 1920s, including "Gay Love", " and "He's a Good Man to Have Around. Great summertime fun.

There's an undeniable charm to Ain't We Got Fun! despite its many imperfections. This musical, with a book by Michael McFaden, tells a gay love story set in the late 1920s. It features a treasure trove of songs from that era, including Cole Porter's "Love for Sale" and Kay Swift's "Can't We Be Friends" (written by Kay Swift with her husband James Warburg, wrtiting under the pseudonym Paul James), along with such lesser known tunes as "He's So Unusual" (by Al Lewis, Al Sherman, and Abner Silver) and "Pu-leeze! Mr. Hemingway" (by Walter Kent, Milton Drake, and Abner Silver). McFaden has also contributed some additional lyrics for several of the songs, mainly to heighten the gay content.
