WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) is pleased to present Adele Myers and Dancers in two consciousness-expanding works 8 Views: Fusiform Gyrus and what we have is half of what we wish for.
A world premiere, 8 Views: Fusiform Gyrus is a synthesizing process of eight points of view from a painter, composer, choreographer, and five dancers. The suite is inspired by and partially titled after Karen Dow's series of eight abstract formalist paintings exhibited at the Bellwether Gallery, NYC in 2006. The fusiform gyrus is a superhighway of the brain along which images from the eye are transmitted by the optic nerve to the visual cortex where the images are processed for perception. 8 Views: Fusiform Gyrus is performed by Tara Burns, Diana Deaver, Kellie Lynch, Philip Montana, and Rebecca Woods with music composed, arranged and orchestrated by Ben Wolfe courtesy of MAXJAZZ and Planet Arts. Additional music recorded by Nick Lloyd at Firehouse 12. Lighting Design by Jim Fench and costume design by Diana Deaver and Philip Montana.
Also on the program, what we have is half of what we wish for originally premiered as a work-in-progress at Joyce SoHo in July 2008. The work is performed by Diana Deaver, Rebecca Woods, Philip Montana, Tara Burns, and Kellie Lynch and features an original score by Kyle Olson with selections by Miu Miu/Bounce and Steve Roden/In Between Noise. Lighting design is by Jim French, costume design by Diana Deaver and Philip Montana, and media design by Tara Burns. This project was made possible in part by a grant from the LEF Foundation.
DNA's Artist in Residence (AIR) program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA); National Endowment for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts.
