WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Internationally renowned tappers Michelle Dorrance and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards share an interest in the evolving identities of women in tap. Here they present solo works interspersed with duets. Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards has performed with tap pioneers Gregory Hines and Savion Glover. She has been featured in films including Hines' "TAP," and Spike Lee's "Bamboozled." She is known for her convention-busting use of high-heeled tap shoes, once the standard for women, and then verboten during the last thirty years of the tap dance revival. Michelle Dorrance is a member of STOMP dance troupe and a founding and long-time member of Savion Glover's company Tii Dii. Dorrance has been hailed in Dance Magazine as having "monstrous technique and a funny, quirky view of the world." Her choreography has been performed at Jacob's Pillow, The Joyce Theater, and at the Duke Theater at 42nd Street.
