RE:Beautiful Production

I dont often comment on these or other boards, but I was so taken by the Pearl Theater revival of VIEUX CARRE that I thought I would offer a few words. I saw the original production of this play and though there were a few good performances, the direction was sloppy and the set too large and cumbersome to accommodate this fragile memory piece. In the Pearl revival the venue is so intimate as to make the audience feel they are part of the production, and each and every performance is excellent. I especially liked George Moforgan...and I hope I spelled his name correctly..as a dying queen looking for love. Is the play one of Williams great plays? No? But like his SMALL CRAFT WARNINGS it is a small gem, with tremendous heart and some wonderful dialogue. I found this revival of VIEUX CARRE to be one of the highlights of the 2008-2009 season. Kudos to the cast and to the magician, Austin Pendleton, who, as director, conjured up a quite memorable production. If you can, go!
