RE:Chekhov as it should be played
Emphasis here is on play. This is a fortunate collaboration between Director, Actors, Designers and a terrific translation. Mr. Pendleton encourages the actors to explore the depths of the eccentric characters and gives them the freedom to stretch the limits of the roles. The great thing about Checkhov characters is that they beg to be pushed to the limits this way, becoming clearer in the process - so that all of the comedy and all of the pain is there. A beautiful production by a director who has a long distinguished career exploring Checkhov. And a designer who knows how to create a set that actors can play on, in and about..
