WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Signature Theatre Company continues the August Wilson Series with Two Trains Running, directed by Lou Bellamy.

In 1969 Pittsburgh, the regulars at a popular local diner grind out an existence against the backdrop of a turbulent world and rapidly changing city. Memphis Lee looks to prevent the demolition of his restaurant in the face of a municipal project while across the street, Mr. West, the local funeral director, has more business than he can handle. Faced with racial inequality, a depressed economy and the threat of violence, the local residents fight to hang on to their solidarity and sense of community.

Additional Wednesday Matinees December 20 and 27 at 2PM.
No performance December 24 at 8 PM.
Additional performances added on December 10 and 17 at 7PM

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

There's much talk the past few years about jukebox musicals but little mention of jukebox plays. Yet, there are such things -- usually set in bars or restaurants -- and "jukebox" isn't just a catchall descriptive term. There's always an actual jukebox present. One of the jukeboxiest of jukebox plays is on view in Lou Bellamy's just-about-perfect revival of August Wilson's Two Trains Running, the second entry in Signature Theatre Company's Wilson retrospective.

The thing about the circa 1969 jukebox that set designer Derek McLane stations just inside the door of Memphis Lee's Pittsburgh beanery is that it's broken. Wilson fans may initially be surprised at this, since they expect to hear [...]
