WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

A prison sentence isn't over once you leave jail. Having just begun to rebuild a life on the outside, Marie (Alison Pill) is confronted with her past when former cellmate Lorraine (Edie Falco) shows up unannounced on her doorstep. The two outcasts, once so close on the inside, struggle to navigate a friendship beyond the prison walls - which may threaten their prospects to start over. Chloe Moss's This Wide Night is a heartfelt and witty portrait of two lost souls trying to find their way in an unforgiving world. Anne Kauffman directs.

WHAT ARE CRITICS SAYING?

The plight of two female ex-cons struggling to adapt to life on the outside is the subject of Chloe Moss'
This Wide Night, now getting an earnest U.S. production from Naked Angels at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater -- one that benefits greatly from thoroughly believable performances by Edie Falco and Alison Pill.

For better and worse, Moss -- who wrote the play on a commission after spending time talking to female prisoners -- forgoes giving audiences any sort of educational lesson or indulging in social criticism, and instead focuses on the interpersonal relationship between ex-cellmates Lorraine (Falco), and Marie (Pill). RE:This Wide Night review
This Wide Night? is a story of a woman, Lorraine Edie Falco who got incarcerated for 12 years for killing a man, giving up her son for adoption. Coming out of prison, she has to where to go or turn to except a younger messed up former inmate, Marie Alison Pill. Lorraine?s jiff visit to Marie?s lasted a while as both women found what they?re missing: mother-child relationship. Having seen another British play That Face prior to ?This Wide Night?, I could not stop comparing the accents. The former has flawless intonation. With the help of an intensely brilliant story by Chlo? Moss, and impeccable acting, I managed to stay awake. I understood the 7-time lights off as this 2-cast play had to change scenes. It could have been titled ?Wide Nights?. The quaint Set Design by Rachel Hauck is suitable for the intimate setting of the128-capacity Peter Jay Sharp Theater. The constant rain in the background window will convince you it is London. Edie Falco is almost unrecognizable in Emily Rebholz?s Costume Design with a very realistic wig. Matt Frey?s proficiency in Lighting Design is superb. These two great actresses, Edie Falco and Alison Pill, can never do anything wrong on stage. Except the later could be a little nicer off stage.
